The thirty-three 2009 graduates of Dawson College Graphic Design program in Montreal, Quebec, celebrated three years of hard work and creative energy with an exhibition of their work from May 27 - June 3 at the College. The opening night, the "vernissage", welcomed hundreds of guests, who spent the evening enjoying vegetarian appetizers and wine, and appreciating the variety and quality of graphic design work on display by the students. The theme for the event was taken from the winning vernissage poster (created by graduating student Katrina-Marguerita Castro) "De-signing off", which featured the relevant letters glowing outward from the other letters and symbols on an Apple keyboard.

Each student displayed the best of their work over the three years in the program on individual tables, including: packaging, illustrations, social issue posters, brochures and booklets, corporate identity projects, as well as multimedia presentations. Three computers were set up so guests could view the students' online portfolios, and a screen and projector showed Flash animations of Leonard Cohen poems brought to life with typography, as well as AfterEffects videos on people and events that changed history.

The Chair of the department, Luc Parent, gave a short speech about this years graduating class, in which he sprinkled humor into well-wishes:

"It was gratifying to all the faculty members to have been your guides over these three years in the Graphic Design Program. We know that your graduation is an important moment for you because we never saw you wearing elegant clothes before! Be sure we are very proud of what you have accomplished and we wish you all the best positive experiences in the market."

Dawson's Graphic Design program is a three-year program that trains students to become graphic designers. It introduces students to major movements in art and design, teaches them to communicate effectively using graphics, illustration, photography, typography, and multimedia. It also builds problem-solving and project management skills. Dawson’s Graphic Design program is the only one of its kind among anglophone colleges in Quebec and enjoys a high reputation in the industry.
