2010 Salazar Student Awards this Friday!
Stu Ross, May 03, 2010 at 11:01 PM

Are you feeling a little light-headed from the transcendence of Icograda Design Week? Well wipe those starry eyes princess because the 2010 Salazar Student Awards are upon us sooner than you think.

Friday May 7, 2010 @ 6-10PM

Give it up for the Student Winners and Honourable Mentions who will be recognized during the evening. Also, special guest speaker, Jeff Barlow will take to the stage and talk about the similarities between Rock Music and Design. I know what you're thinking: groupies, selling out, tattoos. Well apparently there are more parallels

In case you didn't hear, the deadline for entry has been extended to Thursday, May 6 as Jeff plans to do the judging in his car while driving up from Seattle. We're kidding, relax. A superstar lineup of GDC design professionals will scrutinize the entries based on the design solution, the validity of the rationale, and the quality of execution.

Judges this year include:

James Batemen, Creative Director - Karacters Design Group
Maria Kennedy, Creative Director - Seed Ideas
John Maltby, Senior Creative Director - Blast Radius
Cory Ripley, Creative Director - Exhibit A: Design Group
Isabelle Swiderski, Creative Director - Seven25. Design & Typography

AWARDS SHOW & GUEST SPEAKER:

Jeff Barlow, Jelvetica and President of AIGA Seattle
"Design = Rock and Roll (I can prove it)"

One day while transcribing "I am the Walrus" to play on his guitar, Jeff discovered something powerful: That Rock and Roll and Design are overlapped in so many ways that they're practically the same thing. There's pattern, repetition, structure, refinement, and the power to change the world.
