Ion Design is a multi-disciplinary communications firm, serving a wide range of clients including educational institutions, government, technology, tourism, film, entertainment and hospitality. Ion has earned numerous design awards in all categories from print to interactive media including Lotus, Graphex and numerous international citations. Articles and features on the company have appeared in Print, Applied Arts, Step-by-Step, Studio, Shanghai Design, How Magazine, Business in Vancouver, Design Edge and other international print and online publications. Rod Roodenburg (MGDC, Dip. FA, Dip. Design) received a Fine Arts Diploma from Vancouver Community College in 1985, and went on to earn a Graphic Design Diploma from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 1988. As a co-founder of Ion Design (with David Coates), Rod is active in all aspects of the firm, from creative to administration. Rod is past chair of BC’s Alliance of Professional Design Associations representing the Architectural Institute of BC, Interior Design Institute BC, Apparel BC, Industrial Design Institute of BC and the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada. Rod is currently the National VP Communications of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, and past VP Communications, Events Coordinator and Association Liaison serving the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada spanning 15 years. He also sits on Douglas College’s Print Futures Board. Rod has consulted to University and Colleges on topics ranging from professional practices for artists & designers to developing courses for beginner and senior design programmes. He has judged various awards shows, from Applied Arts to GDC Salizar Awards. Rod has spoken to numerous business associations, students and professional designers throughout Canada. He is a sessional faculty member at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design. He has been named among the 'Top 40 under 40' by Business in Vancouver, and the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design presented him with an Emily Award for career and community achievement in 2000.
