Hello,

You recently received background information from our new National President Jim Hudson regarding important constitutional changes. Because the GDC is member driven, we want to know where you stand on each issue. Please click the link below to complete the short survey – it should only take a few minutes and will provide valuable information to the BC Executive. Thank you for taking the time to participate.

"Cameron has been generous in donating his time to join us in Vancouver," says Russell Kennedy, Icograda President. "Architecture for Humanity embodies Icograda's credo of 'leading creatively' and using design as a medium for progressive change. As a community of designers, we wanted to create an opportunity for everyone participating in Design Currency 2010 to support their commitment to 'build back better' following the devastating earthquake in Haiti."

How to participate

  1. Select something from your design 'closet' to contribute to the auction - it can be a book, a poster, a portfolio piece of your choosing.
  2. Give your fellow Design Currency participants a 'sneak preview.' Post what you plan to bring below.
  3. Bring your contribution with you to Vancouver. Items will be collected at the Icograda confernce office at the Vancouver Convention Centre beginning 27 April.
  4. Bidding will open at the Welcome Reception on 27 April and continue through 29 April.

  5. Winning bids will be announced at the conference wrap up on 29 April.

All funds raised will go to Architecture for Humanity's reconstruction work in Haiti. Icograda will make a contribution to the initiative in the name of the more than 20 international speakers who will be participating in Design Currency 2010.

My friend and colleague Leo Obstbaum, the creative mastermind behind the designs of the Vancouver Olympic Games, died suddenly in his home of natural causes in the early hours of Friday, August 21st. He left behind his beautiful wife Monice and young daughter Dakota. He was just 40 years old—the same age as I am.

Leo and I spoken numerous times that week and even had plans to meet that day after work to catch up over drinks and discuss a presentation he’d been preparing about his work on the Olympics. It was a talk he hoped to refine and present during Icograda Design Week Vancouver next spring. I’ll never forget hearing the tragic news and trying to come to terms with the fact that my friend was suddenly gone. It really shook me up. As devastated as I felt, I couldn’t imagine the feeling of loss his family was enduring.
