Joining the executive can be highly rewarding, not only personally but professionally.
Being involved in industry-specific decisions can give you an edge in business so consider board participation in your 2010 strategies.

Attached are the forms and information for nomination. These will be accepted until Jan 28 and nominations can also be made at the AGM.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you like to have a brief discussion about a position or your possible involvement.

Have a great week and see you next Thursday January 28 at the AGM... and your RSVP is much appreciated for catering requirements.
Naturally, Valerie

I appreciate how busy everyone is especially at this time of year, so below is my President's Report in followup to my June 2009 letter asking for your help.

First, the June letter did not uncover Professional members planning to take on executive positions, at least not at this time. Several people are considering positions in the new year but it appears that so far we lack volunteers on the executive board needed to support the President. All positions will be vacant (except past president) at the AGM so there are many opportunities for those who see GDC participation as a strategy to increase their networks and skills.

In January, we will welcome a new President for a two year term. It is my responsibility as President today to determine what will make the transition as smooth as possible based on what we already know.

Our bylaws state the role of your President is to: “... be the principal representative to non-Members, the government and the general public". Last year we set aside money from the contingency fund to be used for building strategy and presentation tools for outreach to the community. Unfortunately several executive members including me had to take on sometimes three and four position's responsibilities, so this initiative is currently on hold. I appreciate that no member would expect GDC VI executives to compromise their livelihoods or private lives so I've instructed all positions to reduce their activities until such time as more assistance is available. We need to focus on our legal requirements to the province and our fidiciary obligations to you.

What I'd like to ask you to do today to answer four questions. Help us understand what is most important to you as we delve into 2010. Click here to answer the questions.

And thanks for contributing what you can.
Naturally, Valerie
