If you would like to get involved with GDC Manitoba, now's your chance; as with anything, the more you become involved the more you get out of it. The call is open to any and all members who are looking to make a difference.

The opportunity to serve on the GDC MB Executive offers the chance to really make an impact on the design community, as well as many opportunities to socialize and network with other designers and people in design related industries. If you have interest in joining, contact

Every member of the executive is required to supply the following:

It's time for GDC Manitoba's annual button swap! Add to your existing collection, or make this the year to start one!

What is it?

A call for GDC Manitoba members to design artwork for a full colour 1" lapel button. You'll receive 100 buttons in return – out of this you'll receive one of each participant's design (the remainder will be your own).

How much does it cost?

$40 (sorry, no refunds for missing the artwork submission deadline).

How do I take part?

Simple! Register and pay online at the gdc.net store. Once confirmation of your payment and registration has been received, technical specs, info on how to supply your artwork, and info on the delivery of the buttons will be sent to you.

When does this take place?

• Deadline for registration is Friday, November 28.
• Button artwork is due no later than Thursday, December 4 at 5:00 p.m.
• Buttons will be available for pick-up approximately 1-2 weeks after the final artwork submission deadline.

We'll strive to organize a mixer to swap buttons. If you have questions, contact – cheers!

Kevin Hnatiuk of New Media Manitoba was on-hand to welcome all the guests who turned out to the event (Kevin, along with a group of local volunteers played a huge role in organizing the event, thanks to you all!). The Honourable Jim Rondeau (Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mines), made a brief presentation, welcomed the enthusiastic crowd, and introduced the keynote speaker, Robert L. Peters, FGDC. This event wouldn't have been possible without the Ministries' support so, many thanks! Rob's keynote presentation was entitled 'Do the Thing Right'.

People stuck around after the presentation, had a few beverages, mingled and chatted on the patio (all the while, enjoying the beautiful Manitoba Fall evening)... a good time was had by all. You can see more images from the event on the GDC Manitoba Flickr Group.

Let us just say here and now: this year is damned lucky it has an extra day in it, because GDC Manitoba is stuffing the calendar with so much eclectic creative goodness that 2012 won’t know what’s what. To wit, PechaKucha Night in Winnipeg, Vol. 9 – our decisive response to the February blahs.
