As a Member at Large (MAL) of the GDC, you are entitled to all of the same rights and benefits as members of other chapters. The only difference between other chapters and our membership, is distance.

There are Members at Large spread over several provinces and countries. This distance makes it difficult for some of us to come together to discuss industry issues, develop and attend events, organize meetings, and share experiences and resources. With a growing membership, there may be other GDC MAL’s in your area that your not even aware of.

We’d like to change that, and we need your help!

We are looking for ideas to improve the MAL virtual community. We want to create events and meet-ups in your area. Hold portfolio reviews for students, socials to meet the other members, and develop forums to raise issues amongst the membership. We are looking for leaders in each region, eager to be a contact point for your area.

We want to hear from you — where ever you are!

The thirty-three 2009 graduates of Dawson College Graphic Design program in Montreal, Quebec, celebrated three years of hard work and creative energy with an exhibition of their work from May 27 - June 3 at the College. The opening night, the "vernissage", welcomed hundreds of guests, who spent the evening enjoying vegetarian appetizers and wine, and appreciating the variety and quality of graphic design work on display by the students. The theme for the event was taken from the winning vernissage poster (created by graduating student Katrina-Marguerita Castro) "De-signing off", which featured the relevant letters glowing outward from the other letters and symbols on an Apple keyboard.

Any person who works or lives in Canada but is outside the geographic proximity of an existing chapter of the GDC is eligible to apply to become a Member at Large in any category of membership. This membership is also available to Canadian citizens who are working outside of Canada.

Members at Large have the rights and responsibilities of the membership category for which they qualify. A Member at Large receives all National benefits, including member access to the GDC website and the Icograda website, the GDC Journal, the gdc.net newsletter, discounts on magazines, books, software, hardware, etc. as listed in Discounts and Benefits. Professional and Licentiate members receive membership kit binders, Associate and Graduate members receive printed membership material. Student members can download the membership kit from the website.
