And we need spectators, as your Manitoba chapter representatives lay out plans and goals for the fantastic year to come. It's an opportunity to meet, mingle, voice ideas and concerns, talk design and discuss, first-hand, all things GDC.

We'll have music, tasty refreshments (including hot popcorn!) and some bang-up prizes, highlighted by a $50 Apple gift card. Nobody will be left out in the cold: all attendees will go home with a yummy grab-bag of designer-y goodness.

After business, we'll screen Richard Kegler's Making Faces: Metal Type in the 21st Century, a fascinating 45-minute documentary capturing the personality and processes of the late Canadian design icon Jim Rimmer.

This year's GDCMB members' meeting will once again be held in the cozy confines of the Millennium Library's Anhang Room.

Making Faces: Metal Type in the 21st Century  

This 45-minute documentary captures the personality and work process of the late Canadian graphic artist Jim Rimmer (1931-2010).

In 2008, P22 Type Foundry commissioned Rimmer to create Stern, a new type design that became the first-ever simultaneous release of a digital font and hand-set metal font (Rimmer was one of only a few who possessed the skill needed to create a metal font). This short film is a unique opportunity to share Jim Rimmer's knowledge and processes with the world.

And in honour of National Popcorn Day, we'll be serving up the hot, puffy good stuff during the show!
