GDC announces new National Executive for 2010–2012

Vancouver, BC—On April 24, 2010 the National Council of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), at its Annual General Meeting at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver, BC, appointed its new National Executive Board Members for 2010–2012.

New GDC National Executive members are:

Jim Hudson (Moncton, New Brunswick) President;
Rod Roodenburg (Vancouver, BC) Past-President;
Jennifer Luckay (Athabasca, Alberta) Treasurer;
Tara Kerner-Marsh (Victoria, BC) Corporate Secretary;
Patrice Snopkowski (Victoria, BC) VP Membership;
May Chung (Halifax, Nova Scotia), VP Education;
Martin Batten (Vancouver, BC) VP Sponsorship;
Matthew Warburton (Vancouver, BC) VP Communications.

Each Chapter (including Members at Large) is represented on the National Council by its President and up to two National Reps.

National Committee Chairpersons are:

Adrean Jean (Ottawa, Ontario) Members at Large;
Valerie Elliott (Victoria, BC) Sustainability;
Steve Fisher (Chicago, IL) Web;
David Berman (Ottawa, Ontario) Ethics.

The Administrative Director of the GDC is Melanie MacDonald of Ottawa, Ontario.

The GDC’s mandate is to maintain a defined, recognized competent body of graphic designers and to promote high standards of graphic design for the benefit of Canadian industry, commerce, public service and education.

The GDC was founded in 1956, grew to become a national association by 1974 and was granted a Federal Charter in 1976. The GDC’s membership in the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) affiliates the GDC with a world-wide organization of graphic designers and provides its members with the opportunity of international recognition and professional development.

There are currently approximately 1,300 members of the GDC in nine Chapters across Canada and as Members at Large nationally and internationally.
