ART DIRECTOR
Job Description
Reports to: Creative Director
Key Objectives:
•to help clients realize their objectives by providing high quality, creative and relevant solutions that realize strategic marketing/communications strategies
Typical Activities:
•designs and directs print, broadcast and online initiatives to reflect the creative strategy
•provides all required specifications and input, instruction and supervision required to smoothly complete production of approved designs
•when necessary, works with Production Manager to select vendors
•reviews and approves all productions materials on assigned projects
•directs photography sessions, press proofings etc. and supervise freelancers as required
•attends meetings to develop creative strategies and to ensure timely, accurate completion of projects
•confirms client review and delivery schedules
•works on the preparation of proposals, marketing plans, and presentations to new clients
•researches and maintains knowledge of clients’ products/services/image
•maintains and enhances knowledge of technical and creative advances in graphic design

Problem Solving:
•recommends solutions to achieve immediate strategic and creative goals and long term client objectives
•identifies issues and informs supervisor as necessary
•explores and recommends new and creative approaches
•recommends outside suppliers (illustrators, photographers, freelance suppliers, graphic artists, etc.)
•recommends software, hardware, copywriter and suppliers as necessary
•determines priorities so as to maximize productivity
Accountability:
•completes work assignments in a timely and professional manner
•ensures that agency quality standards are consistently met
•maintains positive, professional relationships with colleagues within Brown to nurture a team spirit
•ensures technical skills and knowledge are current and shared as appropriate
•adheres to and promotes Brown’s Mission, Vision and Values and is guided in everyday activities by the Reference Manual
Education and Training:
•graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution
Experience:
•three to five years of progressively responsible graphic arts experience
•presentation of a portfolio demonstrating experience in graphic design is required
Other Key Skills or Knowledge:
•knowledge of marketing practices and industry standards
•presentation skills

•high level skills in industry software
•ability to sell and defend work
