DUTIES:
The Technician, Graphic Design, is responsible for supporting learning experiences and digital courses by supporting and maintaining classroom and computer hardware, software, and equipment in the new BA Major in Graphic Design program (which is an expansion of the successful Applied Graphics Diploma program) under the guidance of Graphic Design faculty and the Graphic Design Chair. The Technician will provide practical in-class student software support on the Macintosh computer platform for the following classes:
ARTG 236 Computer imagery I (Adobe Illustrator)
ARTG 237 Computer Imagery II (Adobe Photoshop)
ARTG 130 Page Layout Software (Quark XPress and InDesign)
ARTG 373 Interface Communication Design (Web site development)
ARTG 480 Final Project (various software including Adobe Acrobat)
In addition, the Technician will provide general assistance to students outside of class time, with the use of the hardware and software specified. General Graphic Design classroom and equipment maintenance as needed. General Graphic Design computer hardware and software maintenance, pricing and ordering. Liaise with Facilities, IT, Campus Development, Trades, Graphic Design Work Study students, Graphic Design faculty, the Graphic Design Chair and the Visual and Applied Arts Technician. Graphic Design shipping and receiving as needed. Supply ordering and other related duties and student support as needed. Occasional preparation of instructional support materials. Graphic Design equipment sign-out. All department staff must demonstrate commitment to learning, and student and program success. The Technician is expected to attend faculty and departmental meetings and provide input to faculty.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Relevant Diploma (or equivalent) in a field closely related to Graphic Design from an appropriately accredited institution. A minimum three years practical experience with the hardware and software specified. Proven abilities to work cooperatively with a dynamic and creative program team.
Candidates must demonstrate extensive experience with a Macintosh computer and current Macintosh operating system. Operation of Macintosh compatible peripherals such as printers, scanners and projectors; prepress file preparation; Adobe Creative Suite CS3 including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat (pre-press); Quark XPress 7; current HTML, CSS, Flash and other web page creation programs.
Applicants must include a complete Curriculum Vitae; names of three (3) referees, one of whom has been in a supervisory capacity of the applicant within the past two years, including contact information for each (telephone, email); and copies of credentials.
Preferred: PC experience is an asset
