GDC Design Talk — Intellectual Property: What's in it for you?

Join us at 6:30 pm on Thursday, February 18th, at the Merkin Gallery at NSCAD University, for a presentation on intellectual property (IP) and learn about copyright and trademarks and how it affects you, your work and your clients.

The event starts at 6:30 pm followed by a Q&A session at the end of the evening.

Intellectual Property: What's in it for you?

The presentation will cover the following topics:

  • The importance and strategic use of IP;
  • an introduction to trade secrets, patents, trade-marks, copyrights and industrial designs;
  • useful resources and tips;
  • links to IP publications and on-line tools; and
  • contact information.

About the Speaker

Christene H. Hirschfeld is a partner at the law firm of Boyne Clarke in Nova Scotia, and lives in Queensland, Nova Scotia. Her practice focuses on commercial law.

Christene is Chair of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s Halifax Informals group, an Associate of the Law & Technology Institute, an Affiliate of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, Past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s National Intellectual Property subsection, Past Chair of the Nova Scotia Chapter of Canadian Women in Communication, a past director of the Information Technology Industry Alliance of Nova Scotia and a former lecturer at Dalhousie University Law School. A recipient of CanWest Global’s 2002 Fellowship for her contribution to new media production in Canada, Christene is often invited to speak on matters relating to intellectual property.
