Get Behind Design Campaign Going Strong

Get Behind Design is challenging chapters, sponsors and Fellows to help raise the core funding for the GDC Foundation. The goal for the end of 2010 was to reach $10,000 and we have exceeded that goal with a total now at $12,500! Our sites are set on the next level now and over the coming year we hope to raise another $10,000+.

Vancouver Island Chapter held a Holiday Social, November 21, and donated the entire proceeds from the door to the GDC Foundation. Peggy Cady, GDC Foundation Committee Chair urged the event attendees to help find corporate donors for building the Foundation's fund. "We will exceed our $10,000 goal by the end of this year, and this gives us a strong base for gaining corporate support and matching funds so that we can go on to raise our ultimate goal of $1 million," said Peggy.

Howard Short, GDC VI Vice President, presented a $500 donation on behalf of the VI Chapter.

Gerhard Aichelberger gave a donation on behalf of Printsmith Group, and this was the first corporate donation to the Foundation.

Thank you to the Manitoba Board for matching funds!
The GDC Manitoba Chapter and Board got behind design with a Pecha Kucha event. They raised a donation of $140 for the GDC Foundation with the executive board matching funds made from poster sales at the November 18 Pecha Kucha Night.

Chapter President, Oliver Oike reports: “We had a *slightly* smaller than normal turnout for Pecha Kucha Night as it was the first snow storm of the year, and a lot of people were hunkered down at home. But, for the brave souls who did make it out, they were in for a great of presentations, including a live cooking demo from a local bistro chef, and a videographer's emotional recollections of his late, great-aunt. Combine that with our energetic host (and Trailer Park Boys star) Lucy DeCoutere, it was a unique night, not to be forgotten.”

“We sold $70 worth of posters, and with the Board matching, we will contribute $140 to the Foundation. Not great, but not too bad for a start.”
