GDC Manitoba hosted their seventh PechaKucha event at Winnipeg's Park Theatre on September 15. Snatching the baton from the chapter's six previous efforts, the night was a rousing success, and a feather in the caps of local chapter organizers and volunteers.
Ace Burpee – morning radio host and unabashed fan of all things Winnipeg – set the bar high early with a passionate defense of the beaver. With an airtight account of Canada's national symbol, the packed house was left laughing in his wake. Sandwiched between Burpee and a behind-the-scenes look at the high-speed branding efforts of the Winnipeg Jets from True North senior designer Josh Dudych, attendees were treated to stories and accounts from photographers, illustrators, peppy upstarts and savvy veterans from the city's diverse creative fields.

Since the beginning of 2010, GDC Manitoba has enticed over 80 local creatives to the stage, from chefs and chocolatiers to app developers and architects. The seven crazy nights have provided GDC Manitoba with some of the chapter's grandest and highest-profile moments in recent memory, and in turn has provided ample exposure of the GDC in Winnipeg with local radio, TV and print media taking notice.
In turn, GDC Manitoba has filled the house each time, providing intimate interaction between those bold enough to step to the mic, and the audience there to receive them. GDC Manitoba is now accepting speaker recommendations and requests for the final PechaKucha event of the year in Winnipeg, being held November 10.
