Valerie launched her design career in her late teens, when she wrote and designed a book for Ontario schools on transportation and energy conservation published by Transport 2000 Canada. Her environmental work has spanned several decades and has included starting the first "green team" for Rogers Cable TV in the 80s. She launched and directed the Victoria Values-based Business Network; conceived and coordinated the 2001 DesignCares Travelling Forum and Exhibit that has since traveled the global; and was one of 70 appointees to the BC Government providing advise on how to engage individuals to participate in climate action initiatives.
Not satisfied that she’s done enough to help change behaviours and help raise awareness that a quadruple bottom line model is possible, Elliott speaks regularly on our collective environmental responsibility to school-aged children, to professional communicators, to university students and to business. Her company, iD2 Communications Inc. helps businesses and not for profit organizations to recognize the value of environmental innovation in business positioning.
Elliott is the past President of the Vancouver Island Chapter and the current National Sustainability Committee Chair for the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada; Managing and Creative Director of Victoria-based iD2 Communications Inc, Publishing Director of Four Pillar Book, is a affiliate of the Earth Charter and member of the Ethics Practitioners Assoc. of Canada.
While not working, Elliott can be found making her own plasters and paints for the walls of her 1914 home
