Since its inception in 1928, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) has governed the Métis within Alberta. The MNA is led by a democratically elected Provincial Council, comprised of a Provincial President, a Vice-President, and six regional Presidents and Vice-Presidents. This Council works toward the mandate of the MNA, supporting practices of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness for Métis Albertans in governments’ policy and decision-making processes. The Opportunity
We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic graphic designer to join our growing Communications Department as we increase our support of the MNA Children and Family Services (CFS) portfolio. As a member of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to hone your skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Working closely with and reporting to the Creative Manager and the CFS department, your responsibilities will include design and production for a variety of projects. You’ll be good at keeping up with online trends, coming up with fresh and creative ideas to engage audiences, and working with content developers. About MNA Children & Family Services
The department of Children & Family Services aims to strengthen and support Métis families through client-centred culturally sensitive approaches to wellness. They do this by advocating for and supporting Métis families and children in care, developing culturally-appropriate family plans with Alberta Childrens’ Services, and providing support planning to kinship caregivers and foster families, caring for Métis children.

About You
You take initiative, follow through, provide constructive and creative input, and are open to learning. You’re not afraid to ask questions or be honest and constructive with the team - you're willing to constantly improve based on feedback and provide solutions and alternatives.

Key Responsibilities
• Create compelling visual concepts that inspire, inform, and engage our audience
• Design and produce a range of creative—including advertisements, publications, web graphics, promotional and event collateral—consistent with MNA and CFS brand standards
• Liaise with vendors (printers, promotional suppliers, newspapers, etc.) to establish budgets and production schedules
• Prepare and pre-flight documents for printing, ensuring that all prepress procedures are followed
• Provide photography services at events as needed
• Process, edit, enhance photos following industry best practices

Skills & Competencies
• Solid understanding of graphic design principles (typography, layout, hierarchy, etc.)
• High level proficiency with Adobe applications, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, in a Windows environment
• Experience with video production using Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects an asset
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Solid knowledge of four-color printing process, and the ability to pre-flight and package files
• Experience preparing artwork for a variety of formats including screen printing and laser engraving
• Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to work accurately under tight deadlines
• Self-starter who takes initiative with minimal direction and supervision
• Excellent communication skills; not afraid to ask questions and request feedback
• Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable working in a collaborative, open-office setting

• Graphic design degree or a graphic communications certificate (equivalent may be considered)
• A minimum of 3 years working experience in graphic design

Other Requirements
• Position is based at the Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office in Edmonton, Alberta
• Applicants must reside in the greater Edmonton metropolitan area
• Ability to work occasional overtime (e.g. event photography)
• Travel within Alberta is a requirement; out-of-province travel may occasionally be required
• Must have a driver’s license as well as an operational vehicle
• A link to your portfolio of recent work must be submitted for consideration
