Being creative is my raison d’être, but it never occurred to me growing up that I could have a career as an artist; I chose a “practical” vocation and began the four year process of getting a degree. During the first semester, while sitting in an economics lecture, I knew it wasn’t for me so immediately after that class ended I went to the office of the art department and picked up an application and never looked back.
I completed a three year Diploma in Visual Communications at a school that took foundation studies very seriously and uniquely combined fine arts with design. Art history, drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture classes were a huge part of my education. After graduation I accepted a job as a Graphic Designer and have been on that path ever since.
Learning and exploring other creative avenues has never stopped for me, however. Continuing Education courses have occupied many of my evenings and weekends; I want to keep up to date with current trends, but also have an excuse to get hands on with my drawing pencils and paint brushes. When it was time for a new challenge I focused on another interest of mine, three dimensional spaces, and completed the Interior Design Certificate at the University of Calgary. My journey to completing the Bachelor of Arts program (Fine Arts and Psychology) at Thompson Rivers University began in February 2021.
